just a note on the 828 original in 2022. Like any 20 year old gear there's potential for issues. One symptom I've seen in 2 x separate 828s tried this year: audio works fine for about 1/2 an hour and then the output mutes until a power cycle, or some downtime and power back on.

This is with the original 828/896 software and the updated 'firewire 2.1' / MAS extensions, etc.

It could be the PSU I guess, although all the big caps looked good in both units. I still have one kicking around so maybe I'll try that.
