Dr T's KCS Omega For Atari ST "Keyboard Controlled Sequencer"
« Reply #4 on: September 04, 2018, 05:15:44 AM »
Oh, the KCS. I bought this in 1987 for around £200. Two hundred pounds. Was I insane? I was running a small studio in NE England and I hoped to encourage the notably conservative musical community in my town to dive into the world of electronic music. I didn't succeed. Even now, in 2018, you'd go years between sightings of a synth or a laptop onstage in this town of 120,000 people. I never really got to grips with this software, although it ran happily with a sync code track recorded on my Tascam 80-8 tape machine, giving me a lot of virtual extra tracks. On my Atari 1040 STE, a marvellous machine for music with built-in MIDI sockets, the KCS interface was far less than intuitive. The manual in its substantial ring-binder didn't inspire creativity. I never encountered anyone else using it, either.

I've installed an Atari emulator in my Windows 10 laptop and I'll see if I can make more progress with KCS thirty-one years later. If other people using KCS want to tell me how they are getting on, please do so. All advice welcomed.

Hi. Good to know there are other fools out there playing with KCS.
I have just resurrected my old Atari and now have KCS running. Took some doing - I had to buy an old notebook to format floppies, AND I bought a Roland U-220, which goes well with my Mirage 16 bit sampler.

I've managed to record 8 bars of nothing much, and soon I'll have a proper look at PVG, which is the real reason for this silly activity.

See attached pic of setup in my "Clean Room"
