New unsupported Midex 3/8 drivers available
https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=150&t=11690

Quote
These drivers support Windows Vista and Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.

But again, they are completely unsupported! If you want to use them, it is at your own risk! Only modifications to fit these drivers to the new operating systems have been made. There are no additional bugfixes included!

Nevertheless, we hope that some of you can start using their Midex devices again on current operating systems.

Just got a couple of these oddly designed boxes.
Lack of screws means it's not as easy to tear down as the Midex-8. Still investigating. No boilerplate either.

Yet it's working like a charm with the unsupported Midex_3_1964 drivers on Win10 x64 (21H2), using Cubase 5 as LTB compatible sequencer.

The unit has a relay that switches automatically between MIDI Thru to MIDI computer mode when drivers are activated by a MIDI software.

Neat!

One can't get enough Steinberg's LTB USB MIDI interfaces. :P

Like the Midex-8, the Midex-3 is an EZ-USB design, with a Cypress_AN2131SC as the main USB/MCU component here.
No need for an extra UART to run only 1x3 I/O.
Similar design than the Midiman/M-Audio Midisport 2x2: https://youtu.be/qOnSU3csuE4
Except for the firmware of course, which handle LTB when used with a compatible software sequencer.
To bad they didn't come up with a LED when LTB is activated. Emagic did not either with AMT.

The housing is just two Macrolon shells plugged together with a tad of glue, holding the electronic board tightly.
This one has a BEK factory sticker which numbers have nothing to do with the one on the registration card.
Nothing on the cardboard either, but Made in Germany.

Most likely built by BEK Systemtechnik, which happen to build products for Kemper Digital GmbH, Access Music mother company (and LTB developper):
https://www.bek-systemtechnik.de/en/products/references/

The included DRIVERS_2_2002 CD-Rom is hybrid PC/MAC, but I only could get access to the PC files (about 224MB of various boring Steinberg stuff) .
Made a RAW image with CloneCD: it weights 474MB zipped, so there's definitely extra stuff included.
You can grab it there.

i just realized my USB-2-MIDI is a repackaged M-audio MIDISport 2x2, not a MIDEX-3

Tough luck. :-\

You still can point people from macos9lives to this thread and in the meantime try to read the drivers CD-ROM image to check if the OS9 version is there.

There's no point for me to create an user account at macos9lives to post this:

Is it the same CD called DRIVER_2_2022 that I posted a link to the copy of?

You could do the other way around and use the Midisport 2x2 on OS9.
https://www.macintoshrepository.org/23093-os9-midisport-drivers

Someone wrote the units were the same design (almost!) and M-Audio Windows drivers were compatible with the Midex-3. :P
https://forums.steinberg.net/t/ltb-und-midex3-bzw-midex8-fur-den-mulleimer/615644
LTB just does make sense on older systems using Cubase VST, SX or Cubase 6.

In all seriousness, you'd better get a Midex-8: not much more expensive and easier to catch on eBay.
8x8 I/O are way more useful with an extensive DIN MIDI rig, 1990s style.

So that's a 1999 USB-2-MIDI Steinberg interface, which was a rebadged Midiman/M-Audio Midisport 2x2 as they admitted themselves:

https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/206904330-Drivers-for-the-USB-2-MIDI-interface

The 2002 Midex-3 look alike housing explains why people are mixing it up with the later, which is not the same I/O design (2x2 vs 1X3) and does not use the same drivers (because of LTB).

Cool findings, that's a rarity!
