After you read this information Install will run the
Addports program to finish the install process.
Select the driver that most closely matches your interface.
Also see the last section in this file for further
information.

Thanks for trying the Cadenza for Windows Demo. This file
covers some information not covered in the DEMO.DOC file.

This Demo is fully working with the following execptions -

You cannot save anything. Sorry, but we want you to buy it!

The Demo version of the MIDI Director will only run one
interface driver and will only support one program at a
time.

Some Features of Cadenza for Windows
=======================================================
**************** Now Supports Multimedia Windows

Cadenza will now run with the Multimedia extentions installed
in Enhanced Mode, not just in standard mode as in the past.
The MIDI Director will use the Multimedia Timer if it is
available and can also use the Multimedia MIDI and Synthesizer
drivers. See the section on MIDI Interface Drivers for more
information.

**************** Activating the Tool Box in event edit windows

The manual is a little vague on how to activate the event edit
Tool Boxes. It is really easy. When you are in an event edit window
pressing the right mouse button activates the tool box.

**************** NEW MENU COMMANDS

The following have been added to the Edit menu:

Mark to Start   Creates a block marked region from the beginning
of the song to the current song position.

Mark to End     Creates a block marked region from the current
song position to the end of the song.

Mark All        Block marks the entire song. Actually it removes
all block marking. This has the same effect as
                marking the whole song.

Note: The above commands remove any current block marking.

***************** ACCELERATOR KEYS

Some of following key commands are short cuts to the menu
commands. Others, which are used for block marking, have no
corresponding menu command.

F1              Short cut key for Help\Index

F2              Duplicates Play Button

F3              Duplicates Record Button

F4              Duplicates Stop Button

F5              Duplicates Rewind Button

F6              Duplicates Fast Forward Button

F7              Short cut key for Edit\Mark to Start

F8              Short cut key for Edit\Mark to End

F9              Short cut key for Edit\Mark All

F10             Activates Menu Bar, then use arrow keys to
                select a menu and command.

F11             Open new Note Editor

F12             Open new Event List

Shift+F11       Open new Velocity Window

Shift+F12       Open new Controllers Window

Ctrl+F11        Open new Aftertouch Window

Ctrl+F12        Open new Pitch Bend Window

Shift+F4        Short cut key for Window\Tile\Horizontal

Shift+F5        Short cut key for Window\Cascade

Space Bar       The space bar doubles as a pause key while
recording, and Play and Stop any other time.
While in the Record Pause state, the Stop
button can still be used to stop the recording.

On the Numeric Keypad

+               Short cut key for Window\Zoom In. Only available
when a zoomable window is the active (top) window.

-               Short cut key for Window\Zoom Out. Only available
when a zoomable window is the active (top) window.

***************** MORE ABOUT CHANNELS

The title bars for the Aftertouch, Pitch Bend and Controllers
windows also show the channel number of the events being
displayed.

Notes about the MIDI Interface Drivers
=======================================================
*** Using the MIDI Director -> MultiMedia Extentions Interface

The MIDI Director and Cadenza for Windows now supports
the MultiMedia Extentions. The MIDI Director will use the
Multimedia timer, if it is installed, and with the help of
the Multimedia Interface driver, it will use any Multimedia
driver. This means you can use both a MIDI interface and
a sound card, like a Sound Blaster, at the same time.

You must have Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.0 with the Multimedia
Extentions installed to use this driver.

The Multimedia Interface driver will load all of your MME
MIDI drivers and treat them as one multiport interface. You
can use the MIDI Director Preferences program to exclude
some Multimedia drivers when running the MIDI Director. This
is valuable if you are running other Multimedia compatible
programs and need to use the MME MPU401 driver. But when you
run the MIDI Director, you should use the MPU401 driver we
provide. This is because our drivers work better with the
MIDI Director than MME drivers do. If you have a Music
Quest MQX-32M interface, the MME drivers do not recognize
the second port or the tape sync functions. The Big Noise
MQX driver does. This allows you to get the most from your
interfaces. The general rule is that if we supply a driver,
use it instead of the Multimedia driver.

*** Notes on the MPU-401 and MQX drivers.

The MPU-401 and MQX-32m drivers are identical except for two
features. The MQX-32m driver adds SMPTE and the MPU-401 driver
has a flag for compatibility with CMS cards. The compatibility
flag is really not necessary, since we also supply CMS-401-II
and CMS-444 drivers in the retail package. Both interface
drivers will work with the MPU-401, MPU-IPC, MPU-IMC, MQX-16S,
MQX-32m cards and other MPU-401 compatibles. But if you want to
use SMPTE on the Music Quest interfaces, you must use the
MQX-32m driver. The MPU-401 driver will sense the dual outputs
on your MQX-32m, just as the MQX driver does, but you can not use
the built in SMPTE on your MQX-16s or MQX-32m.

*** Notes on the Sound Blaster MIDI Driver

The SBMIDI.DLL Soundblaster driver will work with both the older
and the newer Soundblaster models. The older Soundblasters could
not do MIDI Input while they did MIDI Output. To use the SBMIDI
driver with these older cards, set the DSP flag to 0. You must
then de-activate the input from the MIDI Director Control Panel,
to beable to send MIDI Data to its output. If you have one of
these older Soundblasters, Creative Labs will send you new
DSP Chips that will allow simultaneous MIDI input and output
for a very small charge. If you want to do serious MIDI, you
need the newer DSP.

*** Note on the CMS-444 interfaces

The CMS-444 comes in two models, one with two ports and another
with four ports. To use the supplied CMS-444 driver with the two
port model of this card, you must set the 'Number of Ports'
parameter in the Addports port setup for this card to 2. If
you leave it set to 4, your machine will crash.

*** Notes on The Key MIDIATOR

The MIDIATOR is a great little interface. It comes in a 1 output
and a 3 output model. The 1 output model is the MS-101 and the
3 output model is the MS-103. Be sure you use the correct driver,
since you will get strange results if you select the wrong one.

Again, thanks for trying our products. We hope you enjoy using
the Cadenza for Windows Demo package.
