AMT8 - USB MIDI interface ships in September

Emagic announces that the AMT8, the new 8 x 8 USB-compatible MIDI interface for Mac and PC, ships in September 1999.

AMT8 - Active MIDI Transmitter
The AMT8 is based on Emagic's successful Unitor8, the 8 x 8 MIDI interface/synchronizer, but without the SMPTE synchronization. The AMT8 can be mixed or stacked with any Unitor8/Unitor8MkII combination and includes Emagic's unique Active MIDI Transmission (AMT) technology. This ensures that AMT8/Unitor8 systems driven by AMT-compatible MIDI software will provide superior timing quality, equivalent to the timing of hardware based sequencers. Up to 8 Emagic interfaces can be stacked on a single RS-232, RS-422 or USB port.

Logic Audio Version 4.0.1 is required in order to use AMT8 with the USB connection found on the latest Macintosh computers. The 4.0.1 update CD for current Logic Audio 4.0 users is included.

Availability
International deliveries of AMT8 begin in September.

Emagic announces the Unitor8 MkII

Emagic is proud to announce the successor to the Unitor8: the Unitor8 MkII. This release further exemplifies Emagic's commitment to emerging industry standards.

Unitor8 MkII
The Unitor8 MkII is a 19", single rack-space, synchronizer and MIDI interface for Mac or Windows operating systems. Each unit has 8 MIDI inputs and 8 independently addressable MIDI outputs. In addition, it can read and write SMPTE as LTC and VITC. The Unitor8 MkII can also easily read LTC from 1/4 to 4x normal speed. With VITC synchronization, Logic will support freeze-frame and reverse playback. In contrast to the earlier model, the Unitor8 MkII can now be connected via a USB port. The existing connections via RS-232 and RS-422 remain unchanged but the Mac Thru connector has been eliminated to make room for the addition of the USB connection. Unitor8 MkII is fully compatible with Emagic's Unitor8 and AMT8 interfaces, meaning that up to 8 units can be stacked to control complex MIDI studios.

The Unitor8 MkII offers all the features familiar from its successful predecessor: outstanding reliability, a SMPTE generator and reader with extremely short lock times for LTC and VITC in all formats, Active MIDI Transmission (AMT) technology, video picture timecode burn-in, a click/footswitch input, stand-alone patch bay functions and many other options.

Logic Audio Version 4.0.1 is required in order to use AMT8 with the USB connection found on the latest Macintosh computers. The 4.0.1 update CD for current Logic Audio 4.0 users is included. Unitor8 MkII also ships with the Unitor8 Control editing software.

Availability
International deliveries of Unitor8 MkII begin in September.

system Extension Required

The provided system extension ("stealth serial port 1.0.2" or "gPort Driver") is REQUIRED if you use Logic Audio 4.0.1, or SoundDiver 2.1 or Newer. These versions confirm the existance of the serial ports. Without these system extensions, the system does not know that the stealth or gport is installed; and the modem port will not be available in Logic / Sound Diver.
