so basically, in order to run sound designer you need both an audio Media II sound card (http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=1580 ) + a nubus capable mac (http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=2417 ) from prior to 1996!
remember theses macs can be 68k cpu powered, or powerpc cpu

Why can't I install Sound Designer II (2.82 or earlier) onto a computer running MacOS 8.0 or 8.1?

Sound Designer II 2.82 was released prior to MacOS 8, and its copy protection is not fully MacOS 8 compatible.  A work around would be to boot the Mac off OS 7.6.1 to install and authorize (or deauthorize) the Sound Designer II application onto the MacOS 8 drive.  Once SDII is installed and authorized, it should be able to run under MacOS 8. An upgrade to Sound Designer II v2.8.3 with OS 8 compatible authorization disks is available from Customer Service. Sound Designer II is compatible with Mac OS 8.0 thru 8.6, but has been discontinued and was never tested on Mac OS 9

This SDII 2.8.2 updater and the authorization used for SDII versions 2.8, 2.8.1, and 2.8.2 require that you boot from System 7x.

Once authorized, SD II 2.8.2 has been reported to run on either OS 7 or OS 8 systems, but was released before OS 8, and therefore was not tested on OS 8 by Digidesign. Sound Designer II was discontinued several years ago, and is no longer available.

Does Sound Designer run on PCI PowerMacs with the Audiomedia III or Pro Tools III PCI?

Sound Designer versions v2.81 and earlier do not support Digidesign's PCI hardware.
Sound Designer 2.82 runs on Pro Tools III PCI and Audiomedia III hardware.
A free update from version 2.8 or 2.8.1 to version 2.8.2 is available in Software Downloads

Sound Designer 2.82 does not support plug-ins when running on PCI hardware, but will otherwise have all the functionality of other Sound Designer versions. The AudioSuite plug-in architecture for Pro Tools provides this functionality within Pro Tools 4.0 and higher. return to top

Is Sound Designer II compatible with Mac OS 9?

Sound Designer II was discontinued prior to the realease of Mac OS 9 and was never tested on Mac OS 9.
Sound Designer II version 2.8.3 is compatible with Mac OS 8.0 thru 8.6.

so the only way to run Sound Designer II with a PCI AudioMedia III card is to use v2.83 with a system capable of running os8.6, the last of which was the b+W g3 + sawtooth G4 AGP.
