May 10, 1999 macOS 8.6 update released

http://web.archive.org/web/20020604064814/www.opcode.com/downloads/
as indicated on this original page posted on opcode.com from 2002
because development ceased in late 1998

http://web.archive.org/web/19980624090523/http://www.opcode.com/
this page first shows the announcement of gibson acquiring opcode
from june 1998, so the purchase date was sometime between march 1998 + june 1998

http://max-archive.bek.no/1998/05-31-98.html
here we see some users discussing the buyout in late may of 1998

http://web.archive.org/web/20050828222145/http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Monitor/6454/
heres the full buyout storry, again, this one says it all went down in MAY 1998

Mac os 8.1 was released in January 1998
this was the os that was current at the time of the buyout
mac os 8.6 wasnt released until a full year after the gibson buy out in may of 1999
but this was around the time that development was shut down and the plug was pulled on opcode

the last g3/g4 macs that were able to use os8.6 was the b+W g3, the sawtooth g4 AGP, and the yikes g4 with PCI graphics, released in 1998,1999 + early 2000
each one needs its own correct exact custom version of the installer for correct + proper installation + error free functioning running os8.6, those installers can be found here and on macos9lives.com

Is it also true for opcode midi interfaces ? I plan to set up a system 7 computer because it's supposedly better with scsi-1. And I'm also gathering informations (thanks to this forum) about old midi interfaces. Currently I hesitate between MOTU Timepiece AV, Emagic Unitor and Opcode Studio 5lx. The studio 5lx is my first choice because I need 9 outs and I would be short with the others. But will it work well with system 7 ?

you can read that it was opcode/gibson themselves who wrote the reccommendation to use os8.6 or below here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040813033906/http://gibson.com/products/opcode/downloads/

at the time when they were giving out the "cracked" versions of the program that didnt require the challenge codes or disk auths..

We recommend using OS 8.6 or below.
