M-audio/Midiman DMAN PCI (1997) win95+/win98
« on: September 26, 2014, 10:37:00 PM »

this is about the PCI DMAN card, for the ISA version click here: http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=3206

win95 drivers:DMAN PCI Windows 95 and 98 Ver: 4.06.2851
http://web.archive.org/web/20001214053000/http://www.midiman.net:80/m-audio/html/dr/drdelarc.htm

bears a striking resemblance to the Audiophile 24/96! but do not mistake it for this card as it doesnt use the same drivers
from what i've read this card is only compatible with windows 95 / win98 / win98se
(and most likely winME using the win98se driver) its also not clear if this PCI DMAN card features support for the earlier Windows 3.11 os from prior to win95 being released, the ISA version did mentiond 3.11 drivers
'

i think this card is a directX only card?? i dont see any mention of ASIO.. asio was introduced in 1996 by steinberg with the release of Cubase VST 3.0 (mac) anyway lets hope it has ASIO driver. or maybe thats why its for win95/98 only? because win3.11 doesnt support DX/ASIO? (fact check please!)

IMPORTANT: The DMAN PCI requires the installation of DirectX drivers, version 5 or higher. Without DirectX installed, the DMAN PCI driver instal-lation may crash. The DMAN PCI Setup program can install DirectX 6 onyour computer before the DMAN PCI drivers are installed. It is very impor-tant to select this option if you do not already have DirectX 5 or higherinstalled on your computer

Installing a Daughterboard
The DMAN PCI comes with a built-in General MIDI compatible wavetable
synthesizer. However, a (26-pin header) daughterboard connector is provided
for installation of an optional third-party synthesizer daughterboard. The
daughterboard header is compatible with most industry-standard daughter-
boards.

To install a daughterboard on the DMAN PCI daughterboard header, follow
these steps:
1. With the DMAN PCI in front of you, remove the daughterboard from its
anti-static bag.
2. Carefully align the daughterboard header socket with the DMAN PCI
header pins. Make sure that the daughterboard is properly oriented so it is
“inboard” to the DMAN PCI card.
IMPORTANT: Pin 1 of the header is marked on the DMAN PCI in white
ink. Be sure that DMAN PCI pin 1 will match up with the daughterboard
pin 1 when installed.
3. Press the daughterboard and DMAN PCI together until the header and
socket mate firmly.

What's New at MIDIMAN: MIDIMAN Introduces Digital Audio for the Rest of the World
Midiman now has a preliminary NT driver for its very popular DMAN Digital Sound Card. This prelimanary driver is available in the FTP area of our web site. Please feel free to download and try these drivers and let us know how they are working for you. Keep in mind that they have to be used under Windows NT with an NT compatable application.

In case you aren't aware of it, Midiman's DMAN is available bundled with the popular Soundspirations Samplitude program. This bundle is called DMAN Digital Studio and retails for $299.95. Samplitude is completely NT compatible and will run just fine with the DMAN under Windows NT. But if you are running under Windows NT you must use the new DMAN NT drivers.

MIDIMAN's most recent product offerings have firmly established it in the ever growing digital audio market. DMan Digital Audio Card ($249.95 msrp) sets a new standard in digital audio for the PC. The new DMan provides a high-quality, full duplex PC digital audio card with the sound quality and specifications of more expensive cards for less than one third of the price. MIDIMAN has also introduced the DMan Digital Studio ($299.00 msrp), which packages the DMan with Samplitudešs popular Multimedia Version hard disk recording software, representing a tremendous customer value. Add MIDIMANšs new programmable EQ Man PC Card ($99.95 msrp) to the PC computer recording studio to provide total stereo equalization for your sound source, recording or mix. DMan, DMan Studio and EQ Man are ALL now shipping.

With the digital audio explosion, every serious musician should consider the flexibility of having a digital audio patchbay. MIDIMAN will soon be shipping its DigiPatch 12x6 our new, affordable 12 In / 6 Out digital audio patchbay. DigiPatch 12x6 includes both optical and RCA-type connectors for switching S/PDIF and ADAT optical signals, and retails for only $699.95. DigitPatch 12x6 will be shipping in April of 97.

In keeping with MIDIMANšs role as the world leader in MIDI interfaces, MIDIMAN showed its new Portman 4x4/S™ ($279.95 msrp), 4 In, 4 Out PC MIDI interface. The Portman 4x4/S plugs into any PC parallel port, reads and writes all SMPTE formats, is half rack sized and acts as a stand-alone MIDI Patchbay. The Portman 4x4/S can send and receive MIDI on all 4 channels at full MIDI bandwidth -- unlike almost all other multiport interfaces on the market. Portman 4x4/S is now shipping.

MIDIMAN is also now shipping its new Keystation PRO™ MIDI Controller ($199.95 msrp), an affordable, full-sized MIDI controller keyboard with velocity sensitivity, modulation and pitch wheels. The Keystation Pro features: 49 full-sized keys, transpose octave up and down switches, program & bank select switches, MIDI controller number assignable to wheel, transmit MIDI channel select, 10 numeric keys, and a General MIDI mode reset switch. Providing the ultimate in portability, the Keystation Pro operates from either battery power or the included 9 volt dc power supply.
