Gerhard Lengeling has a training as a surgeon ;
He studied medicine at the University of Hamburg and became a Dr. in 1987 med. PhD.

Through his acquaintance with the later competitor Karl Steinberg the hobby programmer got to know the basic features of the development of sequencer software and from 1982 onwards he devoted himself to this topic ever more intensively.

He developed the programs Supertrack and later together with Chris Adam Scoretrack for the Commodore 64 . On the much more powerful hardware platform Atari ST , he created "Creator" (a pattern-oriented sequencer ) followed by Notator SL (an enhanced version of "Creator" with note printing and note processing).

Lengeling and Adam entered into a sales partnership with two owners of a Hamburg music trade. The company C-LAB Soft- und Hardware GmbH founded this company. The production and sales manager became Sven Junge (née Kindel).

In 1992, Lengeling and Adam completed the collaboration with the two owners of C-LAB. Since these wanted to keep the name rights, Lengeling and Adam together with Sven Junge founded Emagic , based in Rellingen near Hamburg .

Other C-LAB employees followed them. Under the new company name, Logic was developed for Atari ST , Mac and later also Windows , as well as numerous other software and hardware products, which influenced the development of the whole industry.

After the acquisition of Emagic Soft- and Hardware GmbH by Apple in July 2002, Gerhard Lengeling became the director of music applications for Apple.

In January 2003, the Berklee College of Music awarded him the 6th Annual Golden Clef Award for his contributions to the music industry and music education .
