I discovered yesterday about softmpu, a terminate & stay resident driver for dos that emulates a clever MPU-401 for games that needs it, enabling the use of regular sound cards. it could work for music program as well i suppose.

According to the classification of vetusware, cakewalk 4.5 is for windows 3.1, cakewalk 5  for windows  95:

products that came out during windows 95 initial release wave, they ran on both windows 3.1 + windows 95.
it wasnt for some time after that there were in rare ocasions programs that were for windows 95 only
