HARDWARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You need a minimum of a 386 PC with 4Mb of RAM, Windows 3.1, and a compatible 16-bit soundcard to run Samplitude Studio.

For real-time filter preview and volume rubberbands on more than four tracks, you need a 486 PC with a minimum clock speed of 66MHz, or a Pentium processor.

To use MIDI sample dump or to connect to MIDI devices, you must have a Windows-compatible MIDI interface.

For external sync via SMPTE, you need a special SMPTE interface, though for sync via MIDI Time Code or MIDI Clock, you can use any Windows-compatible MIDI interface.

Typical number of tracks (mono) in virtual projects:

• 386/40MHz with AT hard drive: four tracks at 32kHz
• 486/66MHz with AT hard drive: four tracks at 44kHz, six to eight tracks at 32kHz
• 486/66MHz with SCSI hard drive and PCI controller: six to eight tracks at 44kHz
• Pentium with PCI, SCSI controller: 12 tracks at 44kHz and 16 tracks at 32kHz

Using stereo tracks instead of two mono tracks increases the performance. The hard disk transfer rate should be 176.2 kilobytes per second for every stereo track at full CD bandwidth. This is a theoretical value, however -- in fact, you are advised to have a rate between 1.5 and two times higher.

Samplitude is a very fast realtime wave editor, harddisk-recording, sampling
and multimedia program. It is capable of handling all aspects of multitrack
recording on a PC, running Windows 3.1 with any 16-bit soundcard.
Samplitude-Pro will handle 8 track digital recording, whereas Samplitude-
Light is a scaled down version, with most features of the Pro version
included.

Samplitude is the ideal sound processing and recording tool for the PC
(Multimedia and Pro Audio). If you want to edit sounds and samples to use in
synthesizers, samplers and output through soundcards, then Samplitude
offers tools such as, creating samples, editing samples, cut and copy,
creating loops and more. A loop can be played direct from your harddisk or
RAM while you alter the range in realtime to find the proper loop position.
To smooth over rough spots in loops you can use the Crossfade-Funktion,
then dump it to your Sampling-Keyboard (MIDI Sample Dump) or export it to a
Standard Wave File.

Samplitude offers a powerful Resampling and Time-Stretching option to fit a
particular wave file or sample into a specified time spot or adjust the pitch of
the sample or wave file.

A multitude of drum loops for example can be combined with all kinds of
digital recordings either from CD's or other sound sources or through direct
recording with a mic. All this can be done in virtual projects up to 8 parallel
tracks. Each sample object can be assigned with volume settings and fades
through adjustment of on-screen faders in realtime.

If you made a mistake and need to Undo your previous step, then the up to
100-level UnDo feature will let you reverse every alteration you performed!

For post-editing you can assign markers while you record your sound file.
Every position can be scrolled or jumped to in a fraction of a second.
Zooming will let you look at various levels of your sample, all the way down to
the bare sample.

Samplitude offers a number of effects options such as echo, reverb and
normalizing. To position a wave file or a section of it into one of the virtual
multitracks, simply mark a region and with your mouse pull it onto the track at
a specific point. The section is immediately included into the arrangement,
displayed and played. A raster function gives you exact placement power,
down to single sample level to ensure a smooth crossing over.

A MIDI file can be integrated, which Samplitude uses to drive your MIDI setup
(Keyboards, Samplers, Modules, Effectsprocessors and more) while
recording and playing back audio, this way giving you real multitracking
capabilities with your PC.

If you need to work on video pre- or postproduction, AVI videoclips can be
integrated in Samplitude. From your computer you can synchronize sound
with your pictures. Video postproduction nightmares are solved in an easy
way!

Samplitude in combination with a Digital I/O card in your PC can be used for
mastering your DAT before you submit it for duplication. Simply dump the
contents of your DAT to Samplitude, edit it on the screen and relocate it back
onto the DAT tape. Every object function in Samplitude is performed while
you play the sound file!

Below is a list of features available in Samplitude and Samplitude-Pro. The
Demo Version is a fully working copy with some features disabled. It is
Freeware and you are encouraged to pass it on to others. Samplitude and
Samplitude-Pro are commercial programs and can be purchased with the
information at the end.

Main Features are

- real time hard disk recording/playback with all Windows compatible 16 bit sound  cards
- support of all samplers with sampling rate up to 48 kHz
- support of mono/stereo projects in recording and playback
- support of Ram- or hard disk projects
- physical sample processing in high speed and high quality (e.g. cutting,
normalisation, fading, crossfading, echo, hall effect, filter...)
- virtual projects for non-destructive editing, sample objects can be placed, shifted (displaced) and manipulated (time-line)
- ranges of various projects (RAM and HD) can be combined into virtual projects, e.g. cuttings of various records
- fade-in, fade-out and volume of every object can be produced in real time (non- destructive) and easily manipulated by "handlers"
- sophisticated window techniques, unlimited number of projects
