MARK OF THE UNICORN FIRST TO SUPPORT DIGIDESIGN'S 'DIRECT I/O' AND
PROJECT II CARD DIGIDESIGN USERS GAIN REAL-TIME NATIVE EFFECTS PROCESSING THROUGH DIGITAL
PERFORMER DIRECT I/O SUPPORT

Cambridge, MA - August 25, 1998. Mark of the Unicorn, Inc. (MOTU) has
posted on their web site an update to their MOTU Audio System (MAS) hard
disk recording engine that now supports Digidesign's new Direct I/O
software, which provides audio input and output directly through any
current Digidesign hard disk recording system, including Digidesign's
recently announced Project II card.
"Before this update, Digital Performer users could only use the
Digidesign Audio Engine (DAE) with their Digi hardware," explains Jim
Cooper, MOTU Marketing Director. "Now, Digital Performer users can run
DP's own MAS engine with their Digi hardware - and they can even freely
switch between MAS and DAE.
This is quite a breakthrough for Digidesign
users that don't have a top-of-the-line Pro Tools/TDM system because with
DAE, they had no way of getting real-time, native effects processing. But
now, they can now take advantage of the MOTU Audio System's real-time,
32-bit effects plug-ins, such as eVerb™, PreAmp-1™, Sonic Modulator™, up
to 40 bands of parametric EQ on each track, and many more. They can even
use third-party MOTU Audio System-compatible plug-ins, such as DUY and
the Waves Native Power Pack. It's hard to believe we've finally seen the
day where an Audiomedia III user can run the same Waves UltraMaximizer™
plug-in as a Pro Tools/TDM user - in real time! In addition, Pro
Tools/TDM users can now play back unique Digital Performer plug-ins like
PreAmp-1 and Sonic Modulator through their Pro Tools audio interface."

Compatible Direct I/O Digidesign hardware includes:
Pro Tools|24,
Pro Tools III (PCI),
Pro Tools Project (PCI),
Project II, and
Audiomedia III.

MOTU Audio System 1.31 with Direct I/O support is a free update available
to Digital Performer 2.4 users and is downloadable from MOTU's web site
at www.motu.com.
