alot of pages incorrectly report the fix for this;
quite simply this seems a similiar issue as to when you try to boot a winXP or win7 partition without the SATA driver set to what you had it set to when you installed;

setting SATA to AHCI fixes the problem (if you installed with it set to AHCI)
setting SATA to IDE fixes the problem (if you installed with it set to IDE)
