it was revised to a more modern version, renamed to HFS+ in 1998.
so basically these are the floppy disk filesystem formats
HFS (vintage) vs HFS+ (modern) prior to 1998 and after 1998.

ok this article claims that snow leopard broke compatibility with using HFS formatted floppy discs with OSX via a USB-connected-Floppy Drive; why is this important? its not - to most people - its important to people using vintage macs running System 7 software and using floppy discs to move data back + forth between Vintage + Modern Macs, HFS+ as a filesystem format option for floppies that didnt exist untill the release of MacOS8.1, priomuch like how ExFAT didnt exist in the early 2000s.
