this type of enclsoure costs around 70$ + the cost of the SSD would make it around 100$ but the system is much more fast + responsive after booting up with the SSD over firewire..without the need to even open up the imac to remove the internal drive, which has problems with heat sensor compatibility etc
my 2008 imac 24" is working faster then ever after booting from external SSD via firewire, even only running on the firewire 400 bus speed.
