The Mozart Wave Table is OAK 601 compatible with Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro Standard. The built-in Yamaha OPL4 chip offers downwards compatibility with the OPL3 and OPL2 as well as an integrated wavetable synthesizer, which can fall back on a high-quality sound font in the 2MB ROM. Under Windows, the user has the choice between FM synthesis and wavetable sound, which is in its instrumentation General Midi compatible and is addressed via a Roland MPU-401 interface. The wavetable sound is good for 2MB ( Review here), but the sound card suffers from a catastrophic driver situation. Several revisions of the board require different drivers, which unfortunately do not run stably in every system. For many users, the advertised Sound Blaster Pro compatibility does not work, so Sound Blaster (2.0) must be selected so that samples can be extracted from the sound card. The General Midi part unfortunately can not be addressed in DOS or in a DOS window within Windows, so that the Wavetable can not be used in DOS games.
Interesting: The "Mozart" sound chip, the OAK OTI601 was after the takeover by OPTi the basis for the OPTi Mediachip 928, which has found its way onto some sound cards.
