Windows
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10+
An Intel Pentium 4 processor or later that's SSE2 capable

Mac
OS X Yosemite 10.10+

Linux
64-bit Ubuntu 14.04+, Debian 8+, openSUSE 13.3+, or Fedora Linux 24+

here windows enjoys a much larger window of compatibility; windows 7 was released in 2009.
the other Releases are from 2014 or later! thats a difference of 5 Years! why would google do this?
im not 100% quite sure other than perhaps the market share of windows computers still using windows 7 is very high; still it's very annoying for those of us who own macs from 2008-2013

i still think they could have kept supporting OSX on Mavericks at least which was the last osx before major ui changes in osx 10.10 yosemite

if anyone knows of a hack to make chrome sync work on mavericks id love to hear about it

fortunately thers ways to install high sierra on unsupported macs so this can be used to get around this assuming that you dont have hardware that is dependant upon earlier versions of OSX
