You guys are doing it wrong. You gotta treat it like a exotic car. You pay more for it so you can open the PC case, and feel good about it. You don't take out a Lambo, as your daily driver. You're just asking for wear and tear.

Let the grocery getter take the beating.

Windows 98 (Jun 1998) / Re: WINDOWS 95/98/SE/ME ram limitation patch (2012)

No. It is pretty wasteful, to use Win9x on a multi-core machine. But it is still faster, then an older machine (depending).

About 2012, I had seen mention of someone accomplishing it. I had long left Win98 behind. So, I never followed it up. It was just a screen screenshot, of a dual CPU meter. Could have been completely bogus. A couple of years ago, when I started messing this it again, it seems like no such think could have ever been. If it had been done, maybe it was really buggy. Just a proof, not something actually usable.

I know there have been source leaks, but most usable stuff has been NT era. Without Win9x leaks, the NT code would be really hard to make use of (for Win9x). And it would still be a really long road. There are some tweaked files, built from SDK example code, stolen from Win Betas, and binary hacked. But I've not seen proof, of multi-core/SMP support.

I've always wondered if such a thing could be handled at the BIOS level. Let the hardware split up the load, so you aren't spending cycles deciding how to.

However, someone could write a Daw, VST/VSTi host, or application wrapper to run on a core of choice.
-> https://rloewelectronics.com/Programs/DEMOCORE.ZIP I'd prefer that anyway. That is how I ran Net/FreeBSD. Each core was like it's own computer.

file dated october 26th 2007

seems to work on 10.4.8 (jas) - i did install xcode 2.5

if you are trying to perfect your 10.4 intel hackintosh your going to want this.. unless you love typing in the terminal and doing things by hand...  theres much more better utilities available in leopard + snow leopard + above so this is only of interest to people experimenting with tiger.

talking about the "Enhanced Sata" legacy Bios options on motherboards from late 2000s

Quote
"Enhanced/SATA" allows you to map SATA devices to IDE, so operating systems without AHCI support can still make use of the disks. SATA+PATA usually means that SATA is mapped to primary IDE, while PATA is mapped to secondary IDE

Ram Patch -> https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2019/12/windows-9598me-ram-patch.html

Bundle of patches/tools, ram patch included (same author, Rloew) -> https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2020/06/rloew-9598me-patches-bundle.html

There is also a fix for fast CPUs and USB2, if you don't already have a supporting driver.
Of other potential importance, is unofficial drivers for more modern Nvidia and Radeon Video cards. If all else fails, there is the a Vesa driver from Bearwindows.

I also use alternative shell, like BlackBox or Losi. Some people really like Win98IF, as it uses more modern windows files.
