The new model, the Saffire Pro 10 I/O, is essentially a cut-down version of the Pro 26 (reviewed in SOS December 2006 — click here for the review), and features the same preamps as its big brother, which are derived from the legendary Focusrite Green series.

As the name suggests, it has 10 inputs and outputs: stereo S/PDIF I/O and eight analogue connections each way. Each analogue input has a mic preamp, with XLR connections of the rear panel. The front panel-mounted jack sockets allow line-level inputs to be connected (with instrument inputs accepted by channels one and two).

It lacks the ADAT connectivity of the Pro 26, and the rear panel is far less cluttered, but like it’s bigger brother, it can be buss-powered from the Firewire cable, although a mains PSU is included. It should be shipping at the end of February, costing £379.
