the author of this thread found that he could not have partitions larger then 4gb and have the session 8 card work
changing from 8gb partition to 2 x 4gb partitions fixed a problem for him

Legacy Hardware Section
A Macintosh IIci or faster (i.e. Macintosh IIfx, Quadra or PowerMac series, Centris 650), equipped with a standard NuBus interface and at least 8 megabytes of RAM.
System 7.1 or higher.
32-Bit addressing must be enabled.
DAE version 1.1 or higher and DigiSystem Init 2.6 or higher are required to run with version 1.1 of Session 8. These files are installed by the Session 8 Installer.

this 1996 article mentions the session software for macintosh
he newest contestant is Digidesign's Session (£175). Like the original Deck, Session is a low-cost alternative to Pro Tools or the company's mid-range Session 8. Besides being Power Mac-native, it supports Audiomedia II, and in pre-Quadra computers it may run (although the company doesn't guarantee it) with the original Audiomedia or Audiomedia LC cards.
