This tone generator module is the successor to the MU80, and was released as a higher-end model of the MU50.
We added a second A/D input to enable musicians to connect guitars and other instruments and use the built-in effects, and also added a dance drum kit to cater to the needs of the time.
Much of the XG-compatible MIDI song catalog was created for the MU90, which features a tone generator based on the XG tone generator used on Electones and other instruments.
