first intel chipsets to support USB (feb 1996)
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:01:07 PM »
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_chipsets

the very first pentium supporting chipsets did not include usb support
430LX > march 1993 *avoid due to ide corruption bug or use alternative disk controller
430NX > march 1994 *avoid due to ide corruption bug or use alternative disk controller
430FX > january 1995 (max ram 128 MB)
450KX > november 1995 (max ram 1 GB)
450GX > november 1995  (max ram 8 GB)

usb support was first introduced with the PIIX3 southbridge
430HX > february 1996 (up to 512 MB ***ADDED USB!)
430VX > february 1996 (up to 128 MB ***ADDED USB!)
440FX > may 1996
(up to 1 GB ***ADDED USB!)

in 1997 followed the 430TX & the 440LX chipsets with the PIIX4 southbridge
eventually the 440BX took over as the most desirable chipset i think but with reduced # of ISA slots

430TX > february 1997 (up to 256 MB added UDMA33 ide speed)
440LX > august 1997 (up to 1GB RAM added AGP graphics)
440BX > april 1998 (up to 1GB RAM added 100Mhz FSB)
440GX > june 1998 (up to 2GB RAM)
450NX > june 1998 (up to 8GB RAM, probably for servers?)

mobile chipsets:
440ZX-M
440MX
