========================================

Opcode Systems,Inc.
April 24, 1998
Driver version 1.02

This Read Me file documents the following items:

	1. Using the Setup Program
	2. Serial Port Requirements
	3. Out-Of-Spec Copy Protection Dongles
	4. Studio 64X Sysex Commands

This file provides supplemental information not included in the Studio 64X's
"Getting Started" manual or Online Help file. You may find information here
that solves a problem you are experiencing or which you may later encounter.

IMPORTANT: Please consult the Studio 64X Online help file for complete
operational info. To open the help file, locate the "64X.hlp" file and
double-click its icon. Then use point-and-click links and keyword indexed
searches to find information on hardware connection/configuration, software
setup, step-by-step tutorials, SMPTE sync, and troubleshooting.

------------------------------------------------------------
1. USING THE SETUP PROGRAM
------------------------------------------------------------

Running the Setup program (located on this disk) will:
- Copy driver files, 64X.hlp, 64X.exe, and 64XDIAG.exe to your hard disk;
- Let you configure driver settings for COM port and IRQ;
- Make the necessary changes to your System.ini file;
- Check for an existing driver and update it if necessary.

Windows 95 users can execute the Setup program by navigating to its icon
and double-clicking it.

Windows 3.1 users should choose the "Run" command from the "File" menu.
Then in the following dialog, type "A:\setup" or "B:\setup"
(use the appropriate drive letter for your computer).

------------------------------------------------------------
2. SERIAL PORT REQUIREMENTS
------------------------------------------------------------

For PC use, the Studio 64X must be connected to a COM port compatible with
the 16550A UART serial bus controller specification. Most IBM PC compatibles
manufactured within the last 3 years should have this capability; earlier
machines may support it on a case-by-case basis. For verification, see your
computer's documentation or contact the manufacturer.

------------------------------------------------------------
3. OUT-OF-SPEC COPY PROTECTION DONGLES
------------------------------------------------------------

Some copy protection dongles have a THRU port which is incompatible with
the RS-232C serial communications specification. Such incompatible THRU
ports render the COM port essentially useless for peripheral operation.
If the dongles do their job properly, the Studio 64X (and for that matter,
other serial port peripherals) will have no problem working with them.

However, if you have difficulty using the Studio 64X on the THRU port of
a dongle, temporarily remove the dongle, attach the Studio 64X directly to
the COM port, and run the Studio 64X Patchbay program. If operation is then
proper, contact the manufacturer supplying the dongle for technical support.

------------------------------------------------------------
4. STUDIO 64X SYSEX SPECS (64XSYSEX.TXT)
------------------------------------------------------------

See this text document if you are interested in controlling the Studio 64X's
capabilities via system exclusive messages.
