SoundQuest MidiQuest 2.12 and 3.0 Windows 3.0/3.1
« on: March 27, 2026, 12:49:51 PM »
Hi guys,
I've located a copy of SoundQuest's MidiQuest version 2.12 for Windows 3.0/3.1. The copy has been archived here if anyone wants a copy: https://archive.org/details/mquest_202603

I'm having troubles getting it to see my Roland MPU.401 in Windows 3.1. The MidiQuest software is installed and the Roland MPU-401 driver also. When I load Midiquest it errors with "Midi in Error, The specified device handle is invalid"

The MPU-401 works fine in windows and I can communicate with a Roland MT32 that is attached to it.

Any ideas?
Regards,

Its all working. The issue was I was feeding the 1.44mb floppy disks like a set of disks when really there are two versions, one on each disk, 2.12 and 3.0. I needed to install one or there other.

After installing using MSDOS, to run in Windows 3.x you need to goto Windows setup, options, Setup Application, Ask you to specify an application, browse to the mquest folder and choose mquest.exe. It then create the application in the Applications Folder. Remember also to add the font .fon file by going into Control Panel, fonts, add font and choose the font inside the mquest folder.
